About Symbicort® – COPD
Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol) is an inhaled medication for COPD and asthma. Symbicort provides both the anti-inflammatory corticosteroid budesonide and the rapid and long-lasting bronchodilator formoterol in the same device – the Symbicort Turbuhaler®. This Symbicort inhaler provides a simple, convenient and effective treatment for patients with COPD.

COPD Treatment
As recommended by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) strategy [1], in COPD, Symbicort in a single dry powder inhaler (Turbuhaler®) is used as a maintenance treatment for patients with severe disease with a forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) < 50% predicted normal, and a history of more than one COPD exacerbation who cannot be controlled using long-acting bronchodilators alone as regular treatment.

COPD patients treated with Symbicort Turbuhaler have a substantially reduced risk of exacerbations and an improved quality of life [2-4] and Symbicort Turbuhaler added to tiotropium significantly decreases the rate of exacerbations and improves morning symptoms and patients’ ability to undertake morning activities versus tiotropium alone [4].
